About Wongari Advocacy Group Inc

Wongari Advocacy Group Inc is a Butchulla‑led, not‑for‑profit organisation dedicated to protecting Wongari (dingoes) and strengthening community understanding of their cultural, ecological, and social significance on K’gari and Butchulla/Badtjala Country.

Our work is grounded in Butchulla Lore, guided by cultural knowledge holders, and informed by the best available scientific evidence. We exist to ensure that wongari are respected as living cultural beings, not misunderstood or treated as pests, and that visitors and community members have access to clear, accurate, culturally appropriate information.

Our Purpose

We advocate for:

• Culturally grounded education about wongari

• Safe coexistence between visitors, residents, and wongari

• Evidence‑informed management that respects cultural authority

• Community‑led monitoring and reporting

• Truthful, transparent communication about wongari behaviour and conservation

We work to challenge harmful narratives, reduce misinformation, and promote respectful behaviour on Country so that wongari can live safely and freely as they have for thousands of years.

Our Independence

Wongari Advocacy Group Inc operates independently of the Butchulla Aboriginal Corporation (BAC) and Butchulla Native Title Corporation (BNTAC). This ensures we avoid conflicts with Native Title responsibilities or ranger program operations, while still upholding and respecting Butchulla cultural authority and community leadership.
